How to add a new user for VMRC console?

1. Create/Configure user with vCenter/vSphere

We recommends that you create a new user with minimum permissions for vmrc console with your vCenter/ESXI. So, users can not manage virtual machine settings from vmrc console.


Create a Role:

VMware recommends that you create roles to suit the access control needs of your environment.

Procedure:


1. Browse to Administration > Access Control > Roles in the vSphere Web Client.

2. Click on add icon.

3. Type a name for the new role.

4. Select privileges for the role and click OK.




Create a User:

In the vSphere Web Client, users listed on the Users tab are internal to vCenter Single Sign On.

Procedure:


1. Browse to Administration > Single sign-on > Users and Groups in the vSphere Web Client.

2. On the Users tab, click the New User icon.

3. Type a user name and password for the new user.

4. (Optional) Type the first name and last name of the new user.

5. Type the email address for the new user.

6. Click Ok.



Add Permission:


1. Browse to the object in the vSphere Web Client object navigator.

2. Select your vCenter Server system in the object navigator.

3. Click the Permissions tab.

4. Click Add Permission.

5. Click Add.

5. Identify the user or group to assign to this role.


  1. a. Select the domain where the user or group is located from the Domain drop-down menu..
  2. b. Type a name in the Search box or select a name from the list.
    The system searches user names, group names, and descriptions.
  3. c. Select the user and click Add.
    The name is added to either the Users or Groups list.
  4. d. (Optional) Click Check Names to verify that the user or group exists in the database.
  5. e. Click OK.

6. Select a role from the Assigned Role drop-down menu. The roles that are assigned to the object appear in the menu. The privileges contained in the role are listed in the section below the role title.

7. Select the Propagate to Child Objects check box. The role is applied only to the selected object and does not propagate to the child objects.

8. Verify that the users and groups are assigned to the appropriate permissions and click OK.

The server adds the permission to the list of permissions for the object.

The list of permissions references all users and groups that have roles assigned to the object and indicates where in the vCenter Server hierarchy the role is assigned.

 


2. Create/Configure user with ESXI Host


Create a Role:

VMware recommends that you create roles to suit the access control needs of your environment.

Procedure:


1. Browse to Host object in the ESXI Host.

2. Navigate to Security & Users > Users.

3. Click on + Add Role button.

4. Type a name for the new role.

5. Select privileges for the role and click OK.




Create a User:

In the ESXI host, users listed on the Users tab are internal to Security & Users.

Procedure:


1. Browse to Host object in the ESXI Host.

2. Navigate to Security & Users > Users.

3. On the Users tab, click the Add a user icon.

3. Type a user name, description and password for the new user.

6. Click Add.




Add Permission:


1. Browse to the Host object in the ESXI host navigator.

2. Browse Actions > Permissions.

3. Click on Add user.

4. Select created user from user dropdown.

5. Select created role from role dropdown.

6. Select the Propagate to Child Objects check box.

7. Click Add user
